The beach of the village is one of the largest beaches of Santorini, and its main characteristic is the color of sand, which as you may already know is black
Perissa beach is essentially an extension of Perivolos beach. Together these two beaches form an immense area of sandy beach where you can enjoy a variety of activities. Based on the archaeological findings of the area, it is found that Perissa was an ancient city, which is even rumored to be the ancient city of Eleusis mentioned by Ptolemy the Geographer. However, this ancient city was not the only one to experience great development in the area. During the Byzantine times, on top of the ruins of this ancient city, a new city was built, which in fact was one of the richest on the island, as evidenced by the findings of Aghia Irini. Like most Santorini settlements, this one seems to have experienced its decline as a result of the volcanic eruption and the subsequent uprising of the inhabitants against the emperor who was blamed for the eruption.
