The prehistoric settlement brought to light by the excavations of Spyros Marinatos in 1967 became the reason for the creation of one of the largest archaeological sites. In addition, Akrotiri is a place with all the tourist facilities (accommodation, restaurants, cafe bar etc.) as well as a beautiful and quite popular beach, the Red Beach. A place that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world.

The largest village of Santorini, with a population of about 1900, is Emporio. Also known as Emporio or Nimborio, Emporio is located in the southern part of Santorini and specifically about 12 kilometers from the island's capital, Fira. An important feature of this village is that it is located at the foot of the mountain "Prophet Elias".
